We are trying to do the very first step and that battery connector seems to be really stuck. I don’t want to force it. I’ve tried small needle nose pliers, but it seems that I may end up breaking it if I force any harder.

Hey @seanleblanc,
Please use pliers to pull the white connector part, not the wires. That way, you should avoid breaking anything.
Let me know if you managed to pull it out,

We did not get it out. We definitely tried with the pliers for quite a while, but it seemed we were just deforming the white plastic more than anything.
We ended up leaving it on during the soldering and during the assembly.

Yes, we had a very hard time and couldn’t pull it out with pliers either. Ended up using a glasses flathead screwdriver to lever it out.
